Job Work
Job work is machining carried out on a contract basis to your drawing, sample or specification, often with material supplied by you. It lets you add machining capacity without investing in machines, and suits overflow work, special operations and regular outsourcing.
What it is
Under job work, you send the drawing (and sometimes your own raw material or semi-finished parts), and we arrange the machining operations and return the finished parts. Operations can range from a single step like drilling or turning to a full sequence.
In India, job work under GST has specific documentation for material sent out by the principal manufacturer (delivery challans and returns within set time limits); we follow the paperwork you need.
Typical applications
- Overflow capacity during peak demand
- Operations you don't have in-house
- Finishing machining on castings and forgings
- Regular outsourced machining
- Machining customer-supplied material
Suitable materials
- Customer-supplied or procured material
- Castings and forgings

Points to consider
- Be clear about which operations are in scope and what condition parts arrive in.
- If you supply material, include a little extra for setup and first-piece approval.
- Share inspection criteria so accepted parts match your quality standard.
- For castings and forgings, agree locating datums for the first operation.
