Engineering Plastics & Polymers

Custom Plastic Components to Drawing

Custom plastic components are machined or moulded to your drawing in the most suitable engineering plastic for the application. We help choose the material, machine prototypes and low volumes from stock, and arrange moulding for higher volumes.

What it is

Low volumes are CNC machined from rod, tube and sheet, with no tooling cost and fast turnaround. Higher volumes may justify injection moulding, compression moulding or casting, depending on material and geometry.

Plastics behave differently from metals: thermal expansion, moisture absorption and stress relief all affect tolerances, so material choice and design are reviewed together.

Typical applications

  • Machine parts replacing metal
  • Insulators and spacers
  • Food and pharma machine parts
  • Enclosure and fixture parts
  • Prototype plastic parts

Materials & grades

  • Nylon, acetal, PTFE, PEEK
  • UHMWPE, HDPE, PP, PVC
  • Polycarbonate, acrylic, ABS
  • Polyurethane

Points to consider

  • Plastics need looser tolerances than metals in many cases.
  • Share operating conditions so the right material is selected.
  • Annealed stock reduces machining distortion.
  • Moulding is economical only at higher volumes.

Frequently asked questions

Can you suggest a plastic for my part?

Yes. Share the load, temperature, chemicals and function and we will recommend suitable grades.

Machining or moulding?

Machining for prototypes and low volumes; moulding for high volumes once the design is fixed.

What tolerances can plastic parts hold?

Typically around ±0.05–0.1 mm, depending on material, size and conditions.
