Bolts
Bolts are externally threaded fasteners with a head, used with nuts to clamp parts together. We supply hex bolts, socket head cap screws, carriage bolts, flange bolts, U-bolts, foundation bolts and special bolts in all common grades and finishes.
What it is
Bolts are specified by standard, diameter, length, thread, property class and finish. Partially threaded bolts carry shear on the plain shank; fully threaded screws give full clamping length.
Correct tightening torque and preload are what make a bolted joint hold; lubrication and coating affect the torque needed.
Typical applications
- Structural and machine joints
- Flange connections
- Foundation and anchor fixing
- Automotive and equipment assembly
- Pipe supports (U-bolts)
Materials & grades
- Carbon steel (4.6, 8.8, 10.9, 12.9)
- Stainless steel A2 (304) / A4 (316)
- Alloy steel (B7, high-tensile)
- Brass and non-ferrous
Points to consider
- Specify partially or fully threaded (e.g. ISO 4014 vs 4017).
- High-strength bolts need correct tightening torque.
- Use HDG or zinc-nickel for outdoor structural bolts.
- Match nut grade and thread to the bolt.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a bolt and a screw?
Commonly, a bolt is used with a nut and often partially threaded; a screw threads into a tapped hole. Standards use the terms more specifically.
Which bolt grade should I use?
8.8 is standard for machinery; 10.9 or 12.9 for high loads; A2/A4 stainless for corrosion.
Can you supply foundation bolts?
Yes. J-bolts, L-bolts and anchor bolts can be supplied to drawing.
