Rivets

Rivets are permanent mechanical fasteners for joining sheet metal and structures, including solid rivets, blind (pop) rivets, rivet nuts and structural blind rivets. They are fast to install, vibration resistant and join dissimilar materials without heat.

What it is

Solid rivets are deformed from both sides and used in structures and aircraft. Blind rivets are installed from one side with a rivet tool, ideal for enclosures and closed sections. Rivet nuts (blind inserts) add strong threads to thin sheet or tube.

Material and grip range are chosen to suit the joined materials and thickness.

Typical applications

  • Sheet metal enclosures and panels
  • Vehicle bodies and trailers
  • HVAC ducting
  • Aluminium structures
  • Threaded inserts in thin sheet (rivet nuts)

Materials & grades

  • Aluminium
  • Steel (zinc plated)
  • Stainless steel
  • Copper and brass

Points to consider

  • Match rivet material to the sheets to avoid galvanic corrosion.
  • Choose grip range for total material thickness.
  • Structural blind rivets give higher strength and vibration resistance.
  • Rivet nuts need correct hole size for secure setting.

Frequently asked questions

What is a blind rivet?

A rivet installed from one side with a rivet tool, also called a pop rivet, used where the back isn't accessible.

What is a rivet nut?

A threaded insert set like a blind rivet, adding a strong thread to thin sheet or tube.

Can rivets join different metals?

Yes, but choose compatible materials to avoid galvanic corrosion.
