Rubber Components

Rubber components such as moulded parts, grommets, bellows, buffers, pads, sleeves, extrusions and sheet-cut parts are made to drawing or sample in natural rubber, NBR, EPDM, neoprene, silicone and Viton. They seal, cushion, protect and dampen vibration.

What it is

Rubber parts are compression, transfer or injection moulded with a tool; extruded for profiles and cords; or cut from sheet for gaskets and pads. Compound and hardness are chosen for the application's media, temperature and flexibility.

Low volumes can often avoid tooling by cutting or machining rubber.

Typical applications

  • Grommets and cable protectors
  • Buffers, stops and bumpers
  • Bellows and boots
  • Anti-vibration pads
  • Door seals and extrusions

Materials & grades

  • Natural rubber
  • NBR (nitrile)
  • EPDM
  • Neoprene (CR)
  • Silicone and FKM

Points to consider

  • Specify hardness and compound for the environment.
  • EPDM for outdoor/weather; NBR for oils; silicone for food and heat.
  • Mould tooling needs volume to justify.
  • Rubber tolerances are looser than machined metals.

Frequently asked questions

Can you make rubber parts from a sample?

Yes. We can develop a mould or cut the part from a sample, matching compound and hardness.

Which rubber is best outdoors?

EPDM has excellent weather, UV and ozone resistance, making it the usual choice for outdoor seals and profiles.

Do small quantities need a mould?

Not always; many parts can be cut or machined from sheet or block in low volumes.
